Fixing by welding

For welding of oxidized and modified membranes one can use burners or multi-burner propane-butane welding sets. Whilst welding the membrane, the bitumen mass must leak before the unwinding roll of a weldable membrane on the whole width of a band and to leak of this mass along the longitudinal sides of the membrane.

The width of leaking bitumen mass should not exceed the dozen or so millimetres and on the edges few millimetres. The leak of bitumen mass along the edges of the top cover membranes, due to aesthetic reasons, should be sprinkled with mineral granules, which is used by IZOBUD company to finish the membranes and also provides it to the ordering companies at their request.

Fixing with hot bituminous mass

The hot bituminous mass is heated up on the heater or in the special boiler till about 160ºC – 180ºC and laid on a base through pouring or laying with a roofing brush. When gluing with a hot asphalt one cannot use membranes, which bottom is finished with plastic. The hot asphalt is most frequently used for gluing the traditional building board papers or glass veil membranes, however it can also be used for gluing the plates of mineral wool as thermo - insulation, by putting it first on the bottom part of a mineral wool plate and next on the base.

Fixing with cold bituminous mass

The bituminous mass should be used for gluing the traditional papers. Whilst using the cold bituminous mass it should be remembered that evaporation of solvents from the spread mass before the proper laying of paper is necessary. The time of solvents evaporation comes to 30 minutes in hot summer till about 2 hours or even more, when the temperature of the surrounding is about 10ºC. Below this temperature fixing the papers with the help of a cold bituminous mass is forbidden. Using the cold bituminous mass directly on a polystyrene board is absolutely impermissible.

Mechanical fixing

The basic condition of the applying the mechanical system of fixing is strong, tough uniform base. For fixing membranes or thermo-insulation with the use of mechanical connectors 3 to 9 pieces by m² should be used, depending on roof area, 4 pieces by m² at an average, for buildings of the maximum 20 metres height. The choice of connectors depends on the kind of base (concrete, metal plate, wood) and the thickness of the whole system. Connectors must be fixed in the structural layer of the roof.
